A multi-national manufacturing company specializing in high-tech precision valves & fittings developed a new product to engineer integrated surface mount gas flow panels for clean rooms.  However, the complexity of the assembly and bill of materials required a fully trained engineer to spend hours and sometimes days to design a custom panel.

Rothman & Associated designed, developed & deployed a full-featured integrated gas component panel configurator.  The software is Windows-based and menu-driven with a Rich Interface.  Using a simple grid paradigm, along with drag-and-drop technology, a user (without specialized training) can accurately configure a complex panel in about an hour.

The software is now branded by the manufacturer, enabling it to become a market leader in this area.  Rothman & Associates was invited back to adapt the software for another product and marketplace.

A tier 1 supplier of stampings to the automotive industry found itself with a Y2K compliance issue when the implementation of a new ERP system failed.  A major auto manufacturer threatened to cease orders on July 1, 1999 because the supplier’s current system could not handle delivery dates past January 1, 2000.  This meant that a $10 million + customer was preparing to send this business to a competitor unless the supplier could come up with a solution.

Rothman & Associates built a temporary bridge program to give the supplier enough time to find the best possible integrated software.  R&A gathered requirements, designed the database architecture, and developed a COM-based, n-tiered, distributed client server application that solved the critical issue on time and within budget.

The stamping supplier was so pleased with the system’s ease of use and custom features, that they engaged R&A to continue custom-developing their ERP system – which the supplier considers its secret weapon for consistently beating the competition.

A leading supplier to book publishers developed a service to securely store and distribute eBooks to customers of retail bookstores.  This is an emerging market and time was of the essence.  The supplier’s IT department had strong skills in web development, but lacked the expertise to build and manage a distributed, n-tiered database solution.

Working closely with the supplier’s IT department, Rothman & Associates:

  • Designed the database architecture, database triggers and stored procedures.

  •  Produced documentation to develop web browser-based client & component-based middle-tier objects.

Trained the supplier’s IT team in the discipline and technology of large project management utilizing Microsoft Solution Framework methodologies.

The product and service earned unprecedented success.  Within the first week of release, the supplier’s membership included over 40 major publishers, including Random House, Prentice Hall, Thomas Nelson, Barnes and Noble.com, efollett.com, PreviewPort.com, ipicturebooks, McGraw-Hill, iPublish, BookSite.com, Warner Books, Cambridge University Press, eReads, and Princeton University Press.
